Part 4. Feeling Stuck With My Book

I am now 20,000 words in. Yesterday I felt a little stuck. The effect of that was I spent a day editing and watching too much on YouTube felt like a good idea at the time.)

When I get stuck I always ask myself a question - why - why am I stuck?

  • Why am I stuck?

  • What am I stuck on?

  • Do I need to walk away and give it time?

Being stuck on writing your book is normal

Being stuck on writing your book is normal when writing any book. My reason for being stuck seemed obvious after I asked myself those questions.

I saw a new book a little like mine with an idea a little like mine. I made a mistake by searching and reading some details about the book and the writer. This resulted in me questioning my book despite the fact that, in reality, his book is absolutely nothing like mine. But this resulted in me deviating from my storyline and even questioning the storyline.

I rarely read books when I am writing so I am not sure why I did it this time. If I read when I am writing this can deviate my idea and influence my idea. It’s always a mistake to break that DO NOT read rule for me.

So yesterday I was stuck writing my book, but today I am ready to hit the book head-on.

There is nothing wrong with being stuck as long as you try and understand why you are stuck. It’s almost like a blockage that needs to be shifted.

Every writer gets stuck. The persistent writer breaks through and carries on. This is how to push through and get your book finished.
